Installation

The MINTAL installation team ensures that your windows are installed correctly. Since up to 75% of the effectiveness of any window is determined by proper installation, this factor should never be underestimated. Proper window installation is crucial for maximum efficiency and longevity of your windows. It ensures thermal insulation, prevents moisture buildup, and contributes to the overall comfort of your home. With us, you can be confident in both the quality of the product and professional installation.

Attention to Detail

Due to advancements in construction knowledge regarding connection joints (window-to-opening connection), we have completely abandoned the outdated, incorrect, and now normatively unacceptable installation method — mechanical anchoring (clamps, screws) and sealing with insulating PUR foam.

What exactly is the problem? When a window is installed this way into the opening, moisture (vapour) from the interior can penetrate the PUR foam, and water can leak from the exterior due to cracks around the window frame-wall joint. Research shows that increasing the moisture content of the PUR foam by 5% leads to a decrease in its insulating capacity by approximately 50%, which creates a thermal bridge and subsequently causes defects — condensation on the inner side of the reveals and mould growth.

Expert Advice

The foundation of working with our company is thorough technical and professional consultation. The starting point for a well-prepared window construction design and installation detail is the provision of building documentation, project materials, floor plans, and sections from the client, as well as knowledge of basic legislative regulations, standards, and guidelines from the sales representative.

The prescribed and legislatively approved process for the design and installation of windows and doors is outlined in STN 73 3134: 2014.

Given the vast range of offered and used materials in the connection joint, since 2012, STN 73 3133 has been in effect, specifying the basic requirements for the properties of materials used in the connection joint between the window and surrounding construction. Materials that meet this standard satisfy the fundamental requirements for airtightness, waterproofing, elasticity, thermal insulation, durability, UV resistance, and more.

Requirements for the thermal and technical properties of building constructions and buildings are constantly tightening. The current standard is defined by the revision of the thermal-technical standard STN 73 0540-2 + Z1 + Z2: 2019, which took effect on 1st July 2019.

1. Basic Window Installation Scheme

  • Exterior plane – formed by a so-called vapour-permeable and water-resistant tape
  • Central plane – formed by an insulation layer
  • Interior plane – sealing (protection) of the thermal insulation with a so-called vapour-tight and water-resistant foil

Following the principle of "tighter on the inside than on the outside," this ensures the perfect drying of the joint and thus achieves permanently excellent insulating properties without subsequent defects and discomfort.

2. Window Installation Using Compression Polyurethane Tape for the Entire Connection Joint

  • Compression tape for the entire connection joint plane

Next-generation materials allow for sealing the connection joint with a single product, while still maintaining the principle of "tighter on the inside than on the outside." This property is achieved by modifying the individual layers of the compression tape. A connection joint constructed this way is then waterproof, airtight, provides excellent thermal insulation, and is permanently UV stable.

3. Window Installation into the Thermal Insulation Plane

  • Fixing point – Transfers the weight and load of the window outside the plane of the supporting structure
  • Interior plane – Vapor-tight and water-resistant sealing of the connection joint
  • Centre plane – Insulation layer, with similar or matching properties to the thermal insulation of the wall
  • Exterior plane – Sealing against driving rain, vapour permeability, ventilation of the connection joint

Recessed window installation means projecting the window into the plane of the building’s thermal insulation. This solution offers undeniable advantages, such as the elimination of thermal bridges, shifting the dew point isotherm, and saving energy for heating and cooling. However, recessed installation is more demanding in terms of planning, execution time, and cost. It should therefore be thoroughly calculated and considered in the execution project. Emphasis is placed on the selection of construction materials, the strength of the supporting structure, and the connection of products to the floor. This installation system is more widely used in ultra-low energy buildings, nearly zero-energy buildings, and passive houses.

4. Installation of Oversized Elements

For atypical, oversized window fillings or elements in hard-to-reach spaces, we are ready to meet the most demanding requirements. Using the special UNIC mini crane, with its handling ability in openings as narrow as 600 mm, we can carry out installations even in confined spaces, both outdoors and indoors.
